Which Starlink antenna to choose: Starlink Mini or Standard (V4)?
Share
Starlink currently offers its customers three hardware options to choose from: Standard, Mini and High Performance. The Standard and Mini kits suit most uses, including home internet, on a boat or in a motorhome.
The Starlink High Performance antenna is mainly aimed at professionals and customers living in harsh climates.
Not sure between Starlink Mini and Standard?
The best choice depends mostly on how you use it.
🚐 Motorhome / van / boat → Starlink Mini
🏠 Boat / second home → Starlink Standard
If you use Starlink on the move, the antenna is only one part of the installation. The 12V power supply, the wifi network and the mounting are just as essential.

Starlink Standard kit (V4)

Starlink Standard kit (V4)
The Starlink Standard kit is the default option for Starlink Residential and Starlink Roam Unlimited (€89/month).
It costs €349 and includes an antenna, a stand, a wifi router and a cable. This kit runs on 220V. It contains everything you need to be up and running in a few minutes. You need a clear view of the sky for Starlink to work well, so keep this in mind when installing the antenna.
Features of the Starlink Standard kit:
- IP67 – The Starlink Standard antenna is waterproof and resistant to harsh weather conditions.
- Average power consumption: 75 to 100 watts.
- Router: IP56 (indoor installation), Wi-Fi 6, tri-band, mesh-compatible.
- 2 LAN Ethernet ports
- Router range / coverage: up to 297 m²
- Supports connections for up to 235 devices
Starlink Mini kit

Starlink Mini antenna
The Starlink Mini kit is included by default with the Roam 50 GB plan (€40/month). The Mini antenna is designed for portable, low-power use. It is recommended for basic internet applications.
At €299, the Starlink Mini kit costs less than the Standard kit. The kit includes the Mini antenna (with built-in wifi router), a stand, a pipe adapter, a 220V power supply and a 15 m cable.
Features of the Starlink Mini kit:
- IP67 – The Starlink antenna is waterproof
- Average power consumption: 25–40 W
- Router built into the antenna: Wi-Fi 5, dual-band with mesh
- Can be used while sailing (intermittent drop-outs)
- 1 LAN Ethernet port
- Router range / coverage: up to 112 m²
- Supports connections for up to 128 devices
Starlink Standard or Starlink Mini?
– Performance and internet speed
The Starlink Mini kit has a built-in Wi-Fi 5 router. The Starlink Standard kit comes with a Wi-Fi 6 router, which offers a faster connection speed and better performance than the Starlink Mini kit (higher download speeds and smoother streaming).
– Hardware cost
The Starlink Mini kit costs €299 versus €349 for the Standard kit. The plan choice is the same for the Starlink Mini and Starlink Standard antennas: Roam 50 GB and Roam Unlimited (or the Global Priority plan to bypass the 60-day restrictions).
– Range / coverage
The Starlink Mini kit covers an area of 112 m² versus 297 m² for the Starlink Standard kit. For a Mini antenna installed on a gantry at the back of a boat, reception in the forward cabins of a boat over 15 m will be worse than with the Starlink Standard antenna.
– LAN Ethernet ports
The Starlink Standard kit has 2 LAN Ethernet ports on the wifi router supplied with the antenna. The Starlink Mini kit has 1 LAN Ethernet port, located on the antenna.
The Starlink Standard kit is therefore recommended for connecting devices via the Ethernet port.
– Power consumption
Energy in a motorhome or on a boat is extremely precious. The Starlink Mini kit has an average consumption of 30–35 W versus 80–90 W for the Starlink Standard kit, which makes the Starlink Mini antenna very attractive.
For comparison, the Standard kit uses as much power as a fridge, while the Mini kit uses about as much as charging a laptop.
To cut this power consumption by up to 30% (Standard antenna), we offer Plug & Play kits to convert the Standard kit to 12V and 24V, and the Mini kit in 12V/24V for the Starlink Mini antenna.
We also offer a low-power wifi 6 router (in 12V or 24V), compact and extremely capable, to:
- extend the range of the Starlink Mini antenna, or
- reduce the power consumption of the Starlink Standard antenna.
Which antenna for which use?
The Starlink Standard kit is recommended for:
- most users with typical needs (streaming, web browsing, video calls...)
- a faster internet connection speed
- a more stable connection when sailing in harsh conditions
- greater range / coverage
- use in extreme weather conditions
- 2 easily accessible Ethernet ports
The Starlink Mini kit is recommended for:
- basic internet applications
- its compact size, which makes it easy to carry
- its low power consumption
