Starlink Roaming Rules Change: What RV and Boat Travelers Need to Know

August 18, 2026

Do you use Starlink in an RV, motorhome, campervan, boat or sailboat? An important change to Starlink's roaming rules came into effect on August 17, 2026.

The change mainly affects Starlink Roam Unlimited customers travelling outside their registered home country or region.

Starlink Roam: from 60 to 30 days

Previously, Roam Unlimited customers could use Starlink outside their home country for 60 consecutive days before Starlink could require them to return to their home country or change their service address.

Under the new terms, this period is now 30 consecutive days.

This change is particularly important for long-term travelers, RV owners, digital nomads and sailors who spend several months abroad.

For example, if your Starlink account is registered in France and you travel to Morocco for several months, the new rule may require you to take action after 30 days.

What about traveling within Europe?

There is an important distinction for European travelers.

Starlink's new rules treat Europe differently, meaning that travel between European countries is not subject to the same international 30-day restriction.

For example, an RV or boat travelling from France → Portugal → Spain → Italy is not necessarily affected by the 30-day limit simply because it crosses European borders.

However, if you travel outside the applicable European region, the 30-day limit becomes particularly important.

What does this mean for RVs and boats?

For a holiday of a few weeks, probably not much.

But for long-term travelers, full-time RVers, digital nomads and sailors, this is an important change to consider.

Before leaving for a long trip, check:

  • Your Starlink service address
  • Your Roam plan
  • The country you are travelling to
  • The geographic region applicable to your plan
  • The latest Starlink Terms of Service

Starlink's rules can change. Always check the current conditions before relying on your Starlink connection during a long trip.

Travelling with Starlink? Don't forget about power

The new roaming rule determines where you can use Starlink. But for RVs and boats, another issue remains important: power consumption.

With a traditional installation:

Battery → DC/AC inverter → Starlink power supply → Starlink

A dedicated DC conversion solution can simplify the system:

Battery → Starlink 12V/24V conversion → Starlink

That's exactly what StarWifi 12V and 24V Starlink conversion kits are designed for.

Designed for RVs, campervans, motorhomes, boats and sailboats, they allow compatible Starlink systems to be powered directly from a DC electrical system.

Travelling with Starlink? Optimize your power system too.

Whether you're travelling across Europe in an RV or spending several weeks at anchor, a Starlink installation designed for your 12V/24V system can help you manage your onboard energy more efficiently.
